Toilet brushes are an ordinary home accessory but it is essential to keep your bathroom clean. Choose one that’s easy to grip, clean, and anti-drip.
Just soak the brush in warm bleach water every 4-6 weeks to keep it germ free, rinse and let it dry thoroughly before putting it back in its holder.
Hygienic
We tend to put our toilets last, but in the long run the toilet brush can just sit there collecting germs and bacteria. So you need to clean the brush every few weeks.
We tested several common plastic brushes, which are inexpensive and easy to clean, but they are a little more expensive than stainless steel or silicone brushes that will look great in a contemporary bathroom. Our Lab technicians suggest a holder made from strengthened glass, ceramic porcelain or wood to hold the tools securely and avoid rusting.
Mock recommends running hot water through a bucket or large sink and using as much bleach as the bottle says to put your toilet brush and holder in the water for at least 24 hours before you return them to your bathroom. To completely dry after submersion, air-dry everything or hang them upside down to avoid condensation build-up that might lead to mold.
Easy to clean
Most of our best toilet brushes can be tossed in the dishwasher, even boiled to kill bad microbes, wash well with fresh water and quickly dry. Other can be washed with vinegar, hydrogen peroxide or other chemical cleaners to clean away bacteria that builds up on handle and brush bristles.
The right toilet brush is one that has a plastic round head that can go all the way to the bottom of your toilet and a soft handle so it is easy to hold. Also make sure that the one you select has replaceable heads, and an anchor that stops tipping over.
Mock suggests getting a pair with a case to hide the brush when not in use, and leaving it in a light spot to avoid drippage, and washing it frequently to keep mold and mildew at bay.
Easy to store
Bathroom brushes and plungers don’t always nestle neatly into under-sink drawers so good storage is key. An holder that dries brushes between uses will keep pets and children away from your tools and prevent mildew.
This beautiful toilet brush with its head hidden in the bottom by Normann Copenhagen is one answer. What’s more, its pad is replaceable so you won’t be wasting money disposing of good brushes when they get dirty or grungy.
The same caddy, by Superior Houseware, keeps the toilet brush and plunger inside a closed system, which is easily opened to clean or replace heads. And it’s ventilated so it dries quicker, too – great for small bathrooms where it’s easy to clean because its handle detaches from its wall bracket for easy access!
Stylish
The contemporary toilet brushes really give a style to any bathroom whether minimalist or not. if you are looking for a minimalistic option, a matte black or white ceramic toilet brush; if you are going for a little more adventurous then green or navy blue ceramic ones with holders; if you prefer the natural coconut fiber version Staff also have eco-friendly models without holders or heads; if you prefer something slightly different, we have speckled resin holders! Our Lab professionals tested and researched models and they landed on Brigitt Earley as their writer/content creator who helped them choose and research the best toilet brushes.
